Dressing Cairns
Recently, our MiddleWorld Mysteries community dressed the cairns.
It felt like the right time—marking the turn of the season, bringing fresh attention and care to the stone beings that hold the edges of our gathering space.
Over time, this community has built a number of cairns. Stone cairns carry meaning across many wisdom traditions, serving as markers of guidance, memory, and connection—to the earth, and to the spiritual realms. They can mark pathways, hold remembrance, create places of dedication, and anchor spaces where sacred work unfolds.
Here, the outdoor circle is encircled by five of them, each holding a distinct presence. As the circle is entered, to the right rests the Ancestor cairn, built from rose quartz, carrying memory of those who have moved on from this realm. Moving moonwise, the next cairn holds the Spirits-of-Place, grounded in clear and smoky quartz, honouring the many beings—seen and unseen—who share this land. Next stands our Dragon Current cairn built upon a traditional Peruvian Apacheta, holding recognition and honour for all spiritual paths. Continuing along, there is the more playful one: a cairn with a river of small stones and sparkles at its front, faerie doors at its rear, and wind chimes above that catch and carry quiet messages from the in-between. And finally, one more cairn gathers stones from many places, holding the wider view—the greater forces, the “gods,” in a way of speaking.
Each of these cairns was built by many hands—stones carried in, piece by piece, by those who felt called to contribute.
In this recent tending, they were dressed again. Flowers placed. Offerings given. Scented waters poured. Smoke carried across their surfaces. A renewal of relationship.
They feel like companions in the circle—steady presences that witness what unfolds. Places to pause, to reflect, to remember, or to consider what comes next.
Beautiful and rugged, they are also enjoyed by the critters, who move among them as if they are small stone kingdoms.
They remain with us—part of the story, travelling through the seasons alongside all who gather here.
MiddleWorld Mysteries is a core offering of Ninth Wave Arts — a multi-year Druid Wisdom program grounded in seasonal practice, story, craft, and community learning. Over time, it becomes more than a program. It becomes a circle of people learning to live in relationship with land, cycle, and one another.
