About The Experience

Crafting the Wheel is a series of hands-on workshops exploring the eight turning points of the seasonal year through traditional and seasonally inspired making.

At each gathering, we'll spend a little time with the meaning and character of the season—what is happening in the land, what people have traditionally noticed or marked at this time of year, and what this particular threshold might invite us to consider in our own lives.

Then we'll make.

Each workshop centres around a different seasonal craft, using our hands to create something that helps us mark where we are in the turning year.

Samhain, November 7th

What We Give to the Fire

Making a Fire Bundle for Release

Samhain brings us to the threshold of the darker half of the year—a time traditionally associated with endings, ancestors, remembrance, and the things we are ready to lay down.

In this workshop, we'll create a seasonal fire bundle for release, working with natural materials, herbs, written words, and other simple elements as we consider what has completed its season in our own lives.

What are we finished carrying? What can be composted, transformed, or returned? What deserves acknowledgement before we let it go?

Your finished bundle can be taken home and offered to your own seasonal fire when the time feels right—a handmade vessel for consciously releasing something as we cross the threshold into the dark.

A Little Light in the Darkness

Making a Seasonal Ornament

At the winter solstice, we arrive at the longest night—and the almost imperceptible return of the light.

Humans have long brought greenery, light, colour, and handmade objects into their homes during the darkest part of the year. In this workshop, we'll explore some of those traditions before creating a seasonal ornament of our own.

Using natural and decorative materials, we'll make something that carries a little of what we want to remember through winter: warmth, beauty, hope, protection, memory, or simply the promise that light returns.

Hang it on a tree, in a window, above a doorway, or somewhere it can become part of your own winter tradition year after year.

No previous crafting experience or knowledge of the seasonal wheel is necessary.

Each workshop stands on its own, so come for the ones that call to you—or join us throughout the year and craft your way around the whole wheel.

About the Facilitator

Mushroom whisperer, bone carrier and Star born Dragon-Birther, Penny Reed holds a deep connection to Earth’s hidden stories.

Guided by tender remembrance, she listens to the whispers of the forest and speaks to the bones beneath the soil. A protector of sacred spaces, Penny illuminates the murky corners of the world. Her mystic tools include the starlight sprinkles of the liminal beings and the wayward words of the trees and plant devas.

She does Human Design readings, hosts workshops and offers her brilliant nature creations here at Ninth Wave Arts.
