It’s Somebody’s Birthday
Tucked within the unfolding of our MiddleWorld Mysteries program is a simple truth—over time, we come to know one another.
Cycling the seasonal wheel together—sometimes for years—brings moments of support, joy, sadness, frustration, magic, creativity, and celebration. Cohorts are named and released in rhythm with the seasons, and all who pass through become part of what we call our community “story song.”
Each participant is also named daily to the sun and the moon, so as never to be forgotten as one whose energy has touched the whole. There is an ongoing honouring—whether one is present or not.
One of the ways this honouring takes form is through the celebration of birthdays. Each one offers an opportunity to recognize the inherent gifts a person carries, and the story they are here to tell. For these moments, we create what we call an Honouring Bundle.
Bundle-making is a practice found across many wisdom traditions—Despachos, Prayer Ties, Blessing Bundles—ways humans have long been in relationship with the spirit realms. Within our community, the bundle becomes a vessel for intention, a gathering of symbolic elements that hold prayer, gratitude, and recognition.
The process is simple, though meaningful.
A piece of tissue paper or natural fabric becomes the foundation. Onto it are placed items that carry significance—herbs, flowers, bits of food, written notes, small objects, feathers—whatever feels connected to the intention being honoured. As each item is placed, there is an offering of thought, prayer, or blessing.
Sometimes the elements are arranged with care into a pattern; other times, they are simply gathered together at the centre.
When the moment feels complete, the bundle is wrapped—folded or rolled into itself—and tied with natural thread, holding everything together. It may be left to sit for a time, allowing the intention to steep.
When ready, the bundle is given—returned to the elements. To fire, water, earth, or air.
In this way, celebration becomes offering.
In this way, we honour one another—not only in words, but in action, in symbol, in relationship with the seen and unseen.
Here’s to the inherent beauty within each of us, and to the many ways it is recognized, gathered, and returned.
MiddleWorld Mysteries is a core offering of Ninth Wave Arts — a multi-year Druid Wisdom program grounded in seasonal practice, story, craft, and community learning. Over time, it becomes more than a program. It becomes a circle of people learning to live in relationship with land, cycle, and one another.
