Staying With the Light

Jun 22, 2026

There is something particular about gathering at Summer Solstice, when the light has stretched almost as far as it can go.

For our Summer Solstice In Cycle Gather, a beautiful group came together to call in Cycle with good intentions, good food, and plenty of song. There was conversation around the fire, a table filled by many hands, and homemade strawberry-rhubarb pie—which feels like exactly the sort of thing one ought to eat at the height of an Ontario summer.

And then the gathering took a shape we hadn't expected.

One of our MiddleWorld Mysteries community members found themselves at the centre of a spontaneous rededication rite. Those gathered around the circle simply stayed with it, offering their presence and support as the work unfolded and was carried through to completion.

There was something quietly fitting about it.

For a long time, people have gathered around fires at the height of summer, staying with the long light and keeping company with the moment when its journey begins to change.

Summer Solstice is a celebration of fullness, warmth and abundance—but tucked inside it is the first movement toward darkness. The longest day carries the beginning of shorter ones.

And so we tended the fire.

We sang. We ate. We witnessed. We stayed.

Not because we had planned for the evening to unfold exactly as it did, but because sometimes community means being present for what arrives and knowing how to make room for it.

By the time we made our way home, the Solstice had done what it always does. The sun had crossed its high point. The great abundance of summer was still before us, and yet the turning toward darkness had quietly begun.

Thank you to everyone who came, brought food, lifted their voice, tended the fire, supported the work, and helped make the evening what it became.

Another point in the year, marked together.
